Le 9 Août 2012 dernier, l'Agence wallonne à l'Exportation et aux Investissements étrangers (AWEX) a mené une campagne promotionnelle à Yeosu Expo 2012 pour la candidature de la Belgique, représentée par la ville de Liège, d'organiser une Exposition internationale en 2017.
En étroite collaboration avec l'équipe du pavillon belge et les représentants de Liège Expo 2017, cette promotion avait pour but de présenter les principaux atouts du dossier aux commissaires et directeurs généraux des pavillons nationaux présents à Yeosu, ainsi qu'aux délégués du Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), une institution dotée d'un vote décisif dans le choix du pays qui accueillera cet événement.
L'Ambassadeur de Belgique en Corée du Sud, Pierre Clément de Dubuisson, a ajouté de part sa présence un appui supplémentaire à cette présentation. Au cours de la séance académique qui a eu lieu dans le pavillon de la Corée, l'ambassadeur a souligné la tradition belge d'ouverture internationale, sa nature multiculturelle et sa capacité reconnue pour la gestion de l'organisation de grands événements attirant un large public étranger.
Jean-Christophe Peterkenne, chef de la direction de Liège Expo 2017, a insisté sur les avantages de Liège, notamment en terme de position géographique et de qualité des infrastructures: les facteurs qui sont aussi importants pour les pays participants que pour attirer les visiteurs. Il a ensuite présenté le thème "Connecter le monde, relier les gens, mieux vivre ensemble», qui vise à promouvoir les technologies d'information et de communication pour le bien-être de l'humanité, en donnant la priorité à 5 champs d'application spécifiques: la santé, la mobilité, l'environnement, la culture et l'éducation .
Les thèmes ont ensuite été illustrés par une présentation de la société de Fishing Cactus (Mons), qui est spécialisée dans la production de Social and Serious Games fondée sur la reconnaissance de mouvement.
A l'invitation du Commissaire général Léo Delcroix, la soirée s'est terminée au pavillon belge par une réception où Benoît Gersdorff et son équipe, gérant du restaurant du pavillon national, autour d'un buffet de spécialités belges. Trente-huit pays (près de 40% des Etats représentés à Yeosu Expo) ont pris part à cet événement.
Le vote final lors de la prochaine Assemblée Générale du BIE aura lieu le 22 Novembre 2012.
On 9 August 2012, the Walloon Agency for Export and Foreign Investment (AWEX) led a promotional campaign at Yeosu Expo for the candidature of Belgium, represented by the city of Liège, to hold the International Expo in 2017.
In close cooperation with the team from the Belgian pavilion and representatives of Liège Expo 2017, this promotion aimed to present the dossier’s main assets to the Commissioners and General Directors of the national pavilions present at Yeosu, as well as to delegates from the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE), an institution with a decisive vote in the choice of the host country. The Belgian Ambassador to South Korea, Pierre Clément Dubuisson, added further support to this presentation with his presence. During the academic meeting, which was held in the Korean pavilion, the ambassador underlined Belgium’s tradition of international openness, its multicultural nature and its renowned ability for managing the organisation of large-scale events attracting a wide foreign audience. Jean-Christophe Peterkenne, CEO of Liège Expo 2017, himself, emphasised Liège’s advantages, notably in terms of its geographical position and high quality of infrastructure: factors which are as important for the ease of participating countries as for attracting visitors. He then introduced the theme “Connecting the World, linking People, better living Together”, which aims to promote information technology and communication resources for man’s well-being, by prioritising 5 specific fields of application: health, mobility, environment, culture and education. The themes were then illustrated by a presentation from the company Fishing Cactus (Mons), which is specialised in the production of social and serious games founded on movement recognition. At the invitation of Commissioner General Leo Delcroix, the evening concluded at the Belgian pavilion in a reception where Benoît Gersdorff and his team, manager of the dining area of the national pavilion, provided a standing buffet of Belgian specialties. Thirty eight countries (which is almost 40% of the states represented at Yeosu Expo) took part in this event. The final vote by the General Assembly of the BIE will take place on 22 November.
